Possible Armed Suspect Forces Alpena Public Schools to go on lockdown

The Alpena Police Department is still searching for a possible armed male subject who was seen at Ella White Elementary

Shortly after 10 this morning Alpena Police Department responded to a call at Ella White about an unknown male subject. According to officials the suspect was believed to be holding a handgun. A witness inside of the school noticed the man and immediately took action placing the school on lockdown

All area law enforcement officers were on the call including the Alpena Police Department, Michigan State Police, the Sheriffs Department and even some members from the local narcotics team. Once officials determined no one had gained entry officials spread out searching for the subject.

Alpena Public Schools took notice of the incident immediately and placed all area schools on a soft lockdown.With the recent incident in parkland florida law enforcement is stressing how important it is to practice school safety.
