Poles at harbor due for upgrade
ALPENA, Mich. — An upgrade to an eyesore at the harbor was discussed at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
The poles dating back to the 1980’s at the Breakwall Walk has exceeded their life limit. Harbormaster Shannon Smolinski said the harbor plans to replace the brown poles with short bollards. She said lowering the poles to the same size as the railing improves the view.
Smolinski said it was time for a change as the current lights no longer have a modern feel. The plan is to replace the low profile bollard lighting with dark sky shielding.
They are asking the Community Foundation for $5,000 in grant funding to help with the project.
