ALPENA, Mich. — Yesterday the Michigan National Guard hosted community day for the public to observe their joint fire demonstration.
There is another part of Northern Strike benefiting Northeast Michigan that many may not be aware.
Each year Northern Strike contributes significantly to the local economy in Grayling and Alpena.
It brings in approximately 30 million dollars in military pay and travel, boosting the local economy.
Major General Paul Rogers said while their monies are invested for military readiness, they always have an economic focus.
Rogers spoke about expanding the Grayling Army Airfield and the positive economic impact it could have locally.
Rogers added that they are currently talking to local leaders to better understand the economic impact should the expansion be a success.
They currently have support from Governor Whitmer, Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist, and Congress.
