Michigan at increased fire risk this weekend

ALPENA, Mich.– The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has some advice if you’re planning to burn your leaves.

Fire officers at the DNR said parts of Michigan which experienced dry weather this week see an increased fire risk this weekend.Paul Rogers, fire prevention specialist for the DNR, said the frost and lack of rain raised the fire risk by drying out leaves and grass. He said the DNR will probably decline burn permit requests until early next week.

If you manage to get a burn permit for your leaves, Rogers says to keep water on hand.
