MDHHS urges alcohol consumption in moderation
LANSING, Mich. — April is Alcohol Awareness Month. In response the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services along with other agencies urges drinking in moderation.
The pandemic has put stress on many Michiganders resulting in increased alcohol consumption and binge drinking. Health Director Elizabeth Hertel said excessive drinking can compromise a person’s immune system.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, Michigan ranked top 10 among states that drank the most in 2020. The heath department said excessive alcohol leads to about 3,205 deaths in Michigan each year.
