Mayor Waligora Receives Major Award in Lansing

Mayor Matt Waligora is one excited man! The Michigan Municipal League Elected Officials Academy honored the Alpena Mayor.

Waligora achieved the first level of 4 awards. Waligora was 1 of 25 graduates of its 2018 Elected Officials Academy.

The award recognizes elected officials across the state for their commitment to serving the community.

Waligora said it’s truly hard work, to attend meetings, and attend conferences with legislators to gain all academy credits, but he’s proud to share that he completed 25.

Joking, Waligora said he should be ahead but is happy with his current award status. Waligora said the best part about being a winner is placing Alpena on the map of great things in front of 500 attendees.

Waligora said hopefully he would receive an award for level two next year. Congratulations Mayor!
