ALPENA, Mich. — The Great Lakes Fishery Trust offered the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative a $20,000 challenge grant for place–based education. Under the terms of the agreement, the Fishery Trust will award the $20,000 if this amount is raised from new donors.
According to the steward initiative’s Network Coordinator, Meag Schwartz, this is an awesome opportunity during a time when students and teachers need their assistance the most. The initiative provides professional learning opportunities for both teachers and youth.
The Great Lakes Stewardship spans over nine counties including Alpena and is a network of more than 100 community and education partners. Their common goal is to protect the Great Lakes and environmental resources of Northeast Michigan.
Because of COVID–19, acceptance of donations have been extended through the end of 2021
