Local firefighters begin fire drill training
ALPENA, Mich.— The Alpena Fire Department sounded the alarm Thursday afternoon kicking off their annual fire drill training. Firefighters completed their second drill of the season at the long rapids plaza.
Residents of the facility were directed to the outside of the building as if it was a real emergency situation. Firefighters unloaded their fire gear and made sure the building was clear of residents
As part of fire prevention month, the fire department is educating residents on how to exit a building safety and timely.
Community Risk Reduction Officer Andy Marceau says, “Keeping others safe is their top priority.” Residents are encouraged to keep fire safety in mind as the fall season continues.
Having an exit plan and working smoke alarms are key.
