Homecoming events are canceled at Alpena High School

ALPENA, Mich.— High school students in Alpena can expect more cancellations which affects all homecoming events. This includes the Alumni Hall of Fame, pep assembly, the parade and the school dance.

According to AHS Principal Tom Berriman, an average of 600 students attend the school dance each year and participants in the Hall of Fame induction travel from out of town. To reduce COVID–19 exposure, large gatherings are not permitted at the high school.

The homecoming football game on October 2 is still on the calendar, but only a limited number of spectators will be allowed into the stadium. A homecoming king and queen will still be announced and students can also participate in spirit week.

Berriman said, “He hopes events with large gatherings will resume in the spring semester.”
