Gray skies Thursday; Bright and cool Friday

Temperatures Wednesday finally got closer to typical values for late-October. Afternoon highs reached 48 degrees in Alpena, 52 degrees in Saginaw, Mich. and 49 degrees in Cheboygan, Mich. Winds from the NNE will bring cooler temperatures back into Northeast Michigan Thursday.

Looking ahead to Friday, skies will be mostly clear for the Trunk-or-Treat event in Alpena. Temperatures will cool from the lower 30s to the upper 20s Friday evening. Winds will be light, out of the northwest.

Thursday: A chance of patchy showers. Early-morning temperatures will begin in the upper 30s. Highs will be near 40 degrees in the late-morning. Evening temperatures will cool to the 30s.

Friday: Mostly sunny and cool. Temperatures will drop to the middle/upper 20s predawn. Afternoon highs will reach only about 39 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the lower 30s/upper 20s.

Saturday: A chilly morning, then afternoon highs will become noticeably warmer. Early-morning temperatures will be in the middle 20s. Temperatures will rise to the lower 30s in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will go up to 48 degrees. Evening temperatures will remain mild, in the lower 40s.

Hurricane Zeta made landfall in far southeastern Louisiana Thursday afternoon. Hurricane Warnings remain in effect for southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Tropical Storm Warnings extend from Mississippi to the North Carolina-Virginia border, where winds below hurricane strength are expected. Zeta is forecast to travel to the mid-Atlantic states, and weaken to a post-tropical storm, losing the characteristics that make this system tropical.
