Fraudulent organizations posing as charities

LANSING, Mich. — Michigan’s  attorney general is looking to dissolve ten fraudulent entities for their failure to comply with state nonprofit and charity laws.  The entities being dissolved have names similar to legitimate non profits like the American Cancer Society, American Cancer Foundation, United Way and others.

These fraudulent entities serve no charitable or commercial purpose.  According to Attorney General Dana Nessel the names of the entities were filed in Michigan in 2018 with New York addresses.  Nessel says the complaint to dissolve these illegitimate entities was filed early August.
