FDA Food Inspections Slowing Due to Government Shutdown

The FDA may be slowing down on food inspections due to the government shutdown

Some routine food inspections are not getting done due to the partial government shutdown.

The Food and Drug Administration is expected to continue screening risky foods such as dairy products, produce and baby formula.
FDA Commissioner Scott Gotlieb says the temporary decrease in FDA employees is not a cause for alarm, since many employees would have just been returning to work after the holidays.

Deputy Director of Short–Term Affairs, Sarah Sorscher says, while the interruption in routine food inspections is not yet a major issue, concerns over health standards will grow if the shutdown continues.
