ALPENA, Mich. — Last week, Ella White Elementary in Alpena was vandalized with spray paint. The Alpena Police Department has now found those responsible.

Thanks to a tip, police were able to identify multiple 12-year-old females as the culprits. They have since admitted to the crime. Due to their ages, their names have not been released.

Last week they decided to spray paint “BLM” on the school building and the surrounding area. The writing has not been completely erased at this point. Lt. Eric Hamp with the Alpena Police Department said it’s up to the county prosecutor’s office whether or not to proceed with charges. He also said that if charges are filed, it’s likely that the perpetrators would have to pay restitution for the damages. “Any out of pocket expenses they face, those victims, the suspects would be ordered to pay restitution, which ultimately normally falls to the parents,” he said. “In this case they’re 12-year-old juvenile females, and 12-year-old females don’t work.”

Due to how long the paint has been on the building, it’s unlikely it will ever be completely erased.
