Discussion on use of American Rescue Plan funds
ALPENA, Mich. — Earlier this week county commissioners discussed if they should use funds from President Biden’s American Rescue Plan toward the new jail.
Because of COVID, the jail shut down for a month which resulted in an additional cost of approximately $78,000. Vice Chair Marty Thomson said they have four years to use the federal funds and they have several ideas and projects where the money could be useful. Thomson added they need to use the money wisely to avoid having to pay it back for improper use.
Thomson said the rules for the plan keep changing and they don’t want to get ahead of themselves. He added they will make their decision on how to use the funds in September.
