Cool and gray Thursday; Brighter late Friday

High temperatures ranged from the upper 40s to upper 50s across Northeast Michigan. Cloud cover remained overhead much of the day. As is typical when a brisk breeze comes from the west, warmer afternoon temperatures were most frequently found closer to the shoreline. High temperatures reached 51 degrees in Alpena, 56 degrees in Oscoda, but only 47 degrees in Atlanta.

A few showers will move through Northeast Michigan tonight, very short-lived and exiting to the east in the early-morning. Cloud cover extends across Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota — so our skies will remain mostly cloudy through tomorrow. Some clearing is expected late on Friday.

Tomorrow, morning temperatures will start in the upper 30s. Afternoon highs will reach about 49 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. Winds will become a bit lighter, settling near 10 mph out of the west.

For the pre-Halloween Trunk or Treat event this Friday, cloud cover will be decreasing in the late afternoon and evening. Costumes for the children participating should be designed to keep them warm — temperatures around the start of Trunk or Treat will be close to 45 degrees at 5:30 p.m., and cool to the upper 30s by about 8 p.m. Winds will be very light, only about 5 mph.

Tomorrow, we will see mostly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 40s. Temperatures will become very cool early Friday, starting with lows near 32 degrees. Cloud cover will decrease Friday afternoon-evening, and highs will reach about 49 degrees. Plenty of sunshine is likely on Saturday with high temperatures warming to the lower 50s. Showers are possible Sunday, depending how far north a storm system from the Deep South will get toward our area.
