Civic Theater reopened for two-night show

ALPENA, Mich.– The Alpena Civic Theater ran its first show since March this past weekend, featuring just one actor.

With social distancing measures in place, the Theater premiered “An Evening with Mark Twain” Friday night.

This show features just one actor, Karl Heidemann, playing the role of one of America’s most famous authors.

Heidemann has read nearly all of twain’s books cover to cover, and has weaved cuttings from the books together into a single performance.

director Jay Kettler says this show has been several months in the making.

“We started back in February to get it ready for May,” Kettler told WBKB. “Unfortunately, it was postponed, and then postponed again, and then postponed again. And at one point, I offered to Karl that whenever we can open the theaters again, you’re welcome to present a performance or two here, and he said he’d gladly present a couple performancesas a fundraiser.”

Ticket sales from this show will be used to help cover the cost of minor repairs to the theater. The show ran again on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
