City opens application for new planning position
ALPENA, Mich.– The city of Alpena opened applications to head a new office.
The city merged the Planning and Development and Building and Zoning departments at the beginning of the year for efficiency. Now they’re seeking a person to head this new department.
City manager Rachel Smolinski said the city wants someone with an existing background.
“We’re looking for someone who has previous experience in planning and also has some experience with zoning administration. So those would be preferred. As far as educational background goes, we would prefer someone with municipal experience.”
Smolinski said they also want applicants with bachelor degrees in planning or related fields. She added that they’re looking for people who have fresh ideas for the community.
