Bolenz jewelry holiday parade cancelled
ALPENA, Mich. — Many Alpena residents were looking forward to this year’s Bolenz Jewelry Holiday Parade but the Alpena Chamber of Commerce announced this morning that the parade is cancelled.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services issued an emergency order on Sunday limiting the size of gatherings.
Bolenz Jewelry President, Wayne Calkins, said this was a tough decision but based on the order, cancellation of the parade is best. Calkins said this is the first time the parade has ever been cancelled.
He encourages those looking forward to the parade to enjoy the holiday season regardless.
Calkins is optimistic about a parade for next year and said he hopes those in the process of making floats can salvage them for the next parade.
