Antlerless firearm deer hunt twice in January

ALPENA, Mich. — A late antlerless firearm deer hunt will be held in five Northeast Michigan counties.  Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, Oscoda and Presque Isle have two opportunities to hunt antlerless deer on private land.

Increased antlerless harvest in these five counties helps reduce the number of bovine–tuberculosis-infected wildlife in the future.

Natural Resource Wildlife Health Specialist, Emily Sewell, said BTB is a disease in deer that also affects cattle.  Sewell also said this is why they hold the late antlerless firearm deer hunt.

Deer hunt dates are from January 7 – 10 and January 14 -17.
