Alpena Township Fire Dept. gets a banana boat

ALPENA, Mich.— The Alpena Township Fire Department is making advancements in the ice and rescue division with the latest purchase of the banana boat. The new equipment is designed for ice and water rescue during the summer and winter seasons.

The boat features two openings on each side, a low loading height and direct access to the victim. Rescuers are less likely to sink due to the two thousand pound weight of the boat.

The Township offers hands on ice and rescue training classes to equip fire department technicians. Residents are encouraged to use extreme caution when out on the lake.
