Alpena Township Board of Trustees hold special meeting

ALPENA, Mich. – The Alpena Township Board of Trustees met for a special budget meeting early Tuesday.

Trustee’s discussed the townships water department budget along with a few other items.

The board confirmed that a water reliability study is due this year. The study is performed every 5 years and was last completed in 2016.

Ryan Brege from the Alpena County Road Commission attended the meeting virtually and explained how funding occurs for road construction projects.

He said that 5.8 million dollars is needed for future construction.

“The Alpena County Road Commission receives no property tax money for road construction,” said Brege. “Our money comes from gasoline taxes, weight taxes and special grants.”

Trustees said they will take up the matter of replacing residential utility meters at a future meeting.
