Alpena principal serves graduate her diploma after she missed the ceremony

ALPENA, Mich. — Shania Soik, an Alpena High School graduate, was unable to attend her school’s graduation.

Principal Tom Berriman was notified and decided to show up at her party at Pappy’s Pub on Saturday where he personally delivered her diploma. Berriman said Shania was a great student and he really got to know her over the past three years. “She’s somebody that just being around makes you immediately feel better about life and we just want to make sure that we take time to honor our students, especially recognize students like her who are just going to go on and do great things,” he said.

Berriman added there is nothing they won’t do to help honor their students, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
