Alpena County’s George N. Fletcher Public Library is almost ready to reopen its doors

ALPENA, Mich. – The Alpena County Library is almost ready to show off its renovations.

It’s out with the old, and in with the new…. renovations that is.

“We’ve been working on this renovation for about 7 years now,” said Library Director Eric Magness-Eubank.

Seven years leading up to new upgrades include a better climate system for your comfort and the books.

“It does protect the books too,” said Eubank. “That was one of the big reasons that we did this was that the previous system was damaging books.”

You can also check out books after hours with an outdoor checkout locker.

“They’ll be able to enter their library card and basically the door that it’s behind will pop open and their stuff will be waiting for them,” said Eubank.

Eubank said the staff is excited to welcome guest to the upgraded building.

The upgrades include more access for wheelchairs and spaces throughout for sitting and reading.

He said he’s proud of the team work it took to get to this point.

“The library wasn’t able to do this without the support of the whole community,” said Eubank. The public was really behind this.”

Moving 30 tons of books surely is a team effort that soon the public can enjoy again.
