Alcona resident organizes pop up pantry

ALPENA, Mich -Prior to stay home, stay safe, Director of Alcona County Commission on Aging, Lenny Avery, had the idea of a pop up pantry.

While sheltering in place, he learned that large food distributors needed to get rid of excess.

Avery said he connected with distributors like Tyson and Gordon which resulted in his cause receiving cases of meat, fruits, and vegetables.

Avery also stated they now have eight pop up locations and have filled approximately 370 family cars.

the pop up pantry will be every Friday at 6 p.m.
