2nd Annual Tunnel To Towers Foundation Seeking Volunteers
The 2nd annual Tunnel To Towers 5k Run & Walk is taking place later this year. But for now, the organization is looking for some volunteers. This is the 2nd annual Stephen Siller, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 5k Run & Walk here in Alpena.
The foundation was named after Stephen Siller, a firefighter in New York who, during 9–11 courageously sacrificed his life, by running with 60 pounds of gear, from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Twin Towers.
Money raised from the event goes towards building smart homes for catastrophically injured servicemen. To continue this effort, volunteers are needed.
“Registration is a big one, we have people who volunteer to take care of that because last year we had so many people we had 540 participants so we need lots of registration tables,” said Melanie Smith, Co–Chair of Tunnel to Towers. “We need people just to bring in prizes from businesses and just local areas and also people to just help direct traffic, because there’s so many people we need a lot of help doing all that,” said Smith.
Along with volunteering they are accepting donations of prizes ranging from gift cards, running shoes, baskets, and more.
