$25 million dollar mixed use complex proposed in Alcona County

LINCOLN, Mich. – Alcona County is anticipating a huge multi-million dollar upgrade in the foreseeable future .

Plans for a $25 million dollar mixed use development are in the works in the area.

The proposed project would provide a three story 45 thousand square foot apartment complex, a community center, fitness facility and even a farmers market pavilion.

Lenny Avery, Executive Director for the Alcona County Commission on Ageing who’s spearheading the project said it’s time to meet the needs of the community.

“I was really trying to drill down on the needs of our community, and the more that I kept looking, I kept finding more need,” said Avery. “Some of the biggest need was access to housing, to health and nutrition and health and nutrition and education and food insecurity.”

Avery said that this development paves the way for bringing new businesses and organizations to the area.

“I want to get this project off the ground before that air base does open up,” said Avery. “I want to be in a position where we look attractive to other businesses to come and invest into Alcona County.

Avery said the next steps are to find funding and begin the process of applying for grants.

According to Avery he’s been communicating with regional leaders about the project and is confident the plan will all come together.

He said he hopes to also create jobs during the development. Avery said he’d love to see local residents working with contractors in the future.
