Very cold and a chance of rain/snow mix Friday; Drier this weekend

A disturbance north of Lake Superior will move toward our area. That combined with very cold temperatures will provide a rain/snow mix possibility Friday morning and afternoon. Those chances should taper off in the evening, and drier conditions will take over this weekend.

High temperatures today reached 52 degrees in Alpena. Areas of southern Michigan made it into the 60s, but any warmth is being forced to the south. Colder air has already settled into the U.P., highs today reached 42 degrees in Houghton. Colder air, similar to what has been happening in the U.P., will move into our area tomorrow.

Low temperatures overnight will cool to about 25 degrees. Morning temperatures will be in the lower 30s with a rain/snow mix possible. Chances of a rain/snow mix will continue into the afternoon. Highs will only get to 40 degrees with a brisk breeze from the north. The evening is looking partly cloudy with temperatures in the middle and lower 30s.

Friday’s rain/snow mix chances will be mainly in the morning and afternoon, and any amounts should be very light. Afternoon temperatures will be about 20 degrees colder than normal for early May. Saturday will start with early-morning lows in the 20s. It will be mostly cloudy, breezy, and highs will reach the middle 40s Saturday afternoon. Sunday’s highs will be a touch milder, near 50 degrees. Temperatures will remain below normal through early next week.
