Stronger breeze develops Thursday; Clear skies going into Friday

A weak disturbance generated a mix of snow/sleet/slush/rain over Northeast Michigan late Wednesday afternoon into the early evening. This wintry mix is sinking to the southeast and weakening. Drier conditions from the northwest of our area will be building in. We should see some breaks in the clouds Thursday.

In the Deep South, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a rare level 5 risk of severe thunderstorms for parts of Mississippi and Alabama this evening. Level 5 is at the top of the severe weather scale, and is not used often. Dangerous thunderstorms and tornadoes are breaking out across the highlighted area this evening.

Around here, winds will become stronger Thursday (but there will not be any sign of severe weather). Winds out of the north-northeast will increase to 15-20 mph. So it’s going to feel breezy midday through early-evening.

Winds out of the north-northeast do not bring any great warmth to our area. We’ll have highs near 40 degrees for Thursday and Friday. Over the weekend, winds will shift out of the south. That shift will bring much warmer temperatures into Northeast Michigan. Highs Saturday will reach the middle 50s, then upper 50s to almost 60 degrees on Sunday.

Thursday: Breezy with a mix of sun and clouds. Predawn temperatures will cool to the upper 20s. Afternoon highs will be around 40 degrees. Evening temperatures will head into the middle/lower 30s.

Friday: Sunny, lighter winds. Early-morning temperatures will drop to near 20 degrees. Temperatures will climb to about 30 degrees by the late-morning. Afternoon highs will reach close to 40 degrees. Evening temperatures will go into the 30s.

Saturday: Bright and much warmer. Predawn temperatures will begin in the lower 20s. Late-morning temperatures will rise to the middle/upper 30s. Afternoon highs will get up to the middle 50s. Evening temperatures will dip to the 40s.
