Franklin passes Alda for Oscoda’s all-time scoring record

OSCODA, Mich. — For over 20 years, Nik Alda has been holding Oscoda’s all-time career scoring record with 1,260 points. Thursday night, that record got shattered. Owen Franklin needed 18 points to beat the record and he did exactly that. Late in the third quarter, Franklin knocked down a free throw to make him the all-time leading scorer (1,261 points) in program history.

“It feels really good,” said Franklin. “I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was a little kid. It’s surreal right now, but I bet it’s going to hit me very soon. I just want to thank my teammates, my family, and my coaches for all of their support and for believing in me.”

Oscoda (9-0) took care of business at home, beating Whittemore-Prescott (0-4) 82-14. Franklin led the Owls in scoring with 18 points. Drew Hess netted 17 points, Brennon Mills chipped in with 16 points, and Gavin Lueck finished with 12 points.

Both teams will play each other again this Saturday at Whittemore-Prescott.
