Young filmmaker talks about his process

ALPENA, Mich.– On Tuesday, we announced the winners of the Student Film Contest at the Thunder Bay Film Festival. Saturday, we spoke with the young man who won first and second place.

Nick Lusardi is a student at Alpena Schools. His two submissions to the student film contest this year, “Mermaids, specifically,” and “Kitchen Sink,” took first and second place, respectively.

He said his relationship with his sisters drove each film’s concept.

Lusardi told WBKB he attributes his success this year to experience— he learned a lot about film-making in last year’s contest.

He also said he plans to give part of the prize money to his sisters for their help making the movies. The rest he plans on using for better tools.

Lusardi said he’s a big fan of directors Wes Anderson and Taika Waititi.

While he’s not sure if he wants to pursue film school, he says he definitely wants to keep developing his skills.
