World’s Largest Rubber Duck makes a splash in Alpena

ALPENA, MI. –  There is a lot of action in Alpena’s waters this weekend so don’t miss your chance to see the World’s Largest Rubber Duck.

Craig Samborski spent his whole career running festivals. He decided to “go big or go home” when he became the owner of the World’s Largest Rubber Duck. Eight years later, Mama Duck is traveling through the Great Lakes. She made her stop Alpena along with the Festival of Sail this weekend.

“People get a lot of joy from this duck. I get emails from people that were in a dark place. They say that looking at this duck brought so much joy to their lives. I think that’s what I like to do in life- bring happiness to other people,” said Samborski.

This isn’t your average bath toy. Weighing in at about 1,500 pounds, Mama Duck travels by a semi- truck, measuring 61 feet high, 64 feet wide, and 74 feet long.

Samborski said it always pays off to see how Mama Duck brings joy to festival attendees. “What I get out of these festivals now is watching people walk around and enjoy themselves,” he said. “They don’t think about their mortgages or their car payments. I like that I can provide them with several hours of live entertainment.”

You can pay a visit to Mama Duck at the Festival of Sail this weekend, July 15-17 at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center in Alpena.
