Wolverine State Credit Union and the Boys and Girls Club of Alpena are hosting the 3rd summer of color 5k run and 1 mile fun, Saturday, June 15th at the Alpena Bi–Path at the Carter street parking lot.

“Our participants will get, color blasted so that by the end, they are full of color and it’s really a great way to kick off the summer” said Catherine Knoch, director of operations, Boys & Girls Club of Alpena.

Registration for the color run is $25 and includes a t–shirt. The 5k starts at 10:30 A.M. and the one mile starts at 10:45 A.M. There will be an after party for all who attend after the run concludes.

“Everyone after the race can come over to the parking lot, by the 808 Bowlz, in red brick, for kids activities, face painting, a beanbag toss and a whole bunch of other great things” said Knoch.

“It’s a great way to get families and kids and people from the community gathered together to do something really fun to benefit the organization, the Boys & Girls Club and help with the tremendous growth that we’ve seen over the years. You know, it definitely helps support those operations of being in a much larger facility and having much larger costs now” said Brad Somers, CEO Boys & Girls Club of Alpena.

“These kind of events really help us offset some of the costs to feed the kids or provide a lot of different equipment and resources. and to also bring in new staff members and provide training and on boarding for them” said Somers.

There are 280 kids enrolled in the Boys & Girls Club summer program with the cost of $25 for their ten week program. If interested in participating in the run, you can check out the Boys & Girls Club of Alpena on Facebook.
