Spring Break Family Fun Day was full of laughter, and prizes thanks to the Alpena Optimist club. WBKB News was there yesterday as kids of all ages enjoyed games, food, exhibits, and more.
The annual event has grown from the old times of just going to the movies.
Now, the fun day is held at Alpena High School and allows kids that couldn’t travel to warmer areas for spring break the opportunity to enjoy dodge ball, movies, open swim, yoga and more during their week away from school while in staying in town.
One major treat of the day included a bike drawing. The Optimist Club presented two bikes thanks to Walmart for the age groups, 0 to 7 and 8 years of age and up. The two lucky winners were Rachel Voigt from Rogers City age 5, and Tyler Liske from Alpena age 13.
The Optimist Club directs their efforts towards serving the youth, and bringing out the best in them. Their motto is, “friends of the youth.”
