Warm Friday with some sunshine; Cold front moves in Saturday

High temperatures Thursday reached 50 degrees in Alpena. While not particularly warm, it’s warmer than where temperatures have been the past couple of days. The warmer air mass over Wisconsin and Minnestoa is on the way to our area. Thursday’s highs got up to 56 degrees in Green Bay, Wisconsin and 64 degrees in Minneapolis.

Clear skies extend all across the state, provided by high pressure located over western Kentucky and Tennessee. This high pressure system will slide east, playing a role in the warmer temperatures for Friday. Temperatures are typically warmer west of a high pressure system which is exactly the setup we will have for tomorrow. Then our next round of active weather will come with a cold front currently moving out of western Canada. It will be heading toward the southeast, arriving in Michigan Saturday.

Futurecast shows Friday will be completely dry with partly cloudy skies midday through the evening. Saturday will begin mainly cloudy and dry. Then showers will begin Saturday afternoon and continue into Saturday evening as that incoming cold front moves in from the west.

After the cold front moves through our area Saturday, winds will strengthen out of the northwest. Winds will be blowing around 20 mph Sunday, bringing a return to cool temperatures for the second half of the weekend.

Friday: Partly cloudy and warm. Predawn low temperatures will cool to around 32 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 50s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to about 62 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the 50s, then upper 40s late.

Saturday: Dry morning to midday, then showers in the afternoon and evening. Predawn lows will be near 38 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach close to 54 degrees. Evening temperatures will be around the upper 40s.

Sunday: Becoming brighter, breezy and colder. Early-morning temperatures will begin near 32 degrees. High temperatures will be near 48 degrees in the late-afternoon. Evening temperatures will go from the middle 40s to middle 30s.
