Viking Energy in Lincoln Shuts Down Giving Employees Two Days’ Notice

Viking Energy in Lincoln, Michigan is officially shutting down. Workers were informed earlier this week that June 7th would be their last day of employment. Unfortunately, the company did not mention any severance packages. However, they did promise to pay employees for any unused time off.

Viking Energy is a biomass plant located in Lincoln, Michigan. The plant uses 225,000 tons of wood annually as fuel. Viking energy can generate up to 18 megawatts of power, enough for about 14,000 homes. The plant spends around 4.5 million on low value wood fiber. This closure highlights the recent shutdown of DPI in Alpena, Michigan, underscoring the urgent need for more employment opportunities in the region. Both closures have significantly impacted the local economy.
