VFW Presents “Amplify Alpena” Checks to Non-Profits
The VFW post 2496 in Alpena recently sponsored the “Amplify Alpena” concert, featuring the rock band Jackyl. Today, the VFW presented checks to the nonprofit organizations for which they raised money.
The first of its kind concert that took place at the APlex on November 17th raised over $20,000 for nonprofit organizations all across northeast Michigan.
Those nonprofits include the Foster Closet of Northern Michigan, Boys and Girls Club of Alpena, the Salvation Army, United Way, Feeding Kids Ministry, the All Saints Friendship Room, the Baby Pantry and Children’s Closet, and more.
With the event being a success, the VFW believes there can be more in the future.
“Next year we hope to be able to bring it back, whether it’s the same band, Jackyl, or it’s other bands,” said VFW District 13 Commander Jeremiah Shields. “We’re going to reach out. A few of us have connections in that area, so we’re hoping to do this again and continue it, and bring back more talent.”
The VFW is appreciative of the community support for the concert and enjoyed presenting checks to those they helped.
“For us to kind of tag on to the coattails, we were able to bring money in and give it to the local charities that really needed it, and it’s going to be a great opportunity for all these nonprofits to grow,” said Shields.
The VFW and Don Monti, who organized the event, are hoping to bring more concerts to Alpena in the near future, and now have the confidence that it can happen.
