Veterans thank local Girl Scouts for hard work

ALPENA, Mich. – Local Girl Scouts may had had a much different year, but they still persisted with their mission.

One thing Girl Scouts have learned…

“Team work and getting along ,”said Alpena Girl Scout Troop leader Evonne Jasman.

Girl Scouts met at Camp Woodlands Wednesday for an awards ceremony.

The girls were recognized for their hard work even by the Veterans for all their hard work and dedication for the year despite what’s going on around them.

“These girls blew me away with what they’ve accomplished this year because we missed several months of being able to meet together,” said Jasman.

Accomplishments like building a cook station from scratch for Camp Woodlands.

“By helping out, by making something,” said Girl Scout Troop 4845 member Raina Jasman.

“The girls spent volunteer hours putting this together, getting supplies,” said Jasman. “There was a lot of heavy lifting , the girls learned how to make cement and mortar.”

Some scouts also bridged over into a more mature role, solidifying just how much the program means to them.

“It feels good because you have other people with you and they care about you,” said bridging Girl Scout Cadet Victorria Peck.
