United Way kicks of their Stuff the Bus program

ALPENA, Mich. –The first day of school may look a little different this year but in response United Way is already gearing up with their Stuff the Bus program.

Today the United Way of Northeast Michigan kicked off the Stuff the Bus program at Walgreens in Alpena.

The initiative is to equip students in need with necessary school supplies such as pens, notebooks, markers and more.

The United Way Executive Director, Joe Gentry, feels that even thought there is uncertainty of the fall semester, school supplies should be a priority.

According to a United Way press release, being equipped impacts a students’ social, emotional, and academic performance.

Gentry said last year’s Stuff the Bus was a success and they are looking forward to reaching their current goal.

Donations are being accepted in the way of supplies and monetarily until Sunday between the hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
