ALPENA, Mich.– Girl Scout Troop 1218 has opened up an art competition.

The young women of Troop 1218 collaborate frequently with Alpena County Animal Control.

Now, they’re fulfilling a dream of animal control employee Michelle Reid. Reid has always wanted a mural for the side of the animal control building.  Troop 1218 planned an art contest to find the best design.

K–12 students in Alpena County can submit a design for the mural online. The winner gets to paint their mural this summer alongside the scouts.

Troop leader Deborah Hautau has more on the judging criteria.

“The girls are going to get together with Michelle Reid and other employees at Animal Control and go through the pictures and select what they think would be suitable for the wall. Then they’ll work those into a composite mural and submit it to the council for approval.”

Students can send their submissions to HautauDJ@AlpenaCC.edu.

The submission period ends February 26.
