ALPENA, MI – Archery season is finally back. The season kicks off on October 1, and wraps up on January 1 in the state of Michigan.

As hunters eagerly await opening day, the Department of Natural Resources has some suggestions for hunters to follow. Specialist, Chad Stewart, recommends some tips on how hunters can stay safe this year. “If they’re getting off the ground,” he said. “Make sure that they have some sort of safety harness.”

Additionally, Stewart mentions a list of dos-and-don’ts for archery season. “Making sure that you’ve got as little smell on your hunting clothes as possible,” he said. “It will help make sure that those deer aren’t as on-edge.”

If you’re a new hunter this season, Stewart shares some important points for a successful first trip. “Make sure you have a level of proficiency and confidence with your bow,” he said. “Make sure you put the time in and you’re practicing before you go out.”

If archery season isn’t for you, the regular firearm season is set to begin on November 15 for the state of Michigan.
