Thunder Bay Theatre Awarded $12,500

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs recently awarded over $100,000 in grants to various Alpena agencies.

Among those groups was the Thunder Bay Theatre, which was awarded a $12,500 operational support grant.

According to Artistic Director Jeffery Mindock, the theatre has been writing for the grant for the past several years, and this is the first year that the theatre received the amount that they originally applied for.

Mindock says a grant such as this provides the theatre with an excellent opportunity to continue to grow.

“I know that a large chuck is actually going to be to bring on a Managing Director, so that I can actually spend more of my time doing the Artistic Director stuff. Which includes directing, publicity events, you know, really strengthening our community outreach and really expounding upon some of those things that I’m already doing, but also currently conflicted with; with the business side of things. So that’s really exciting for the theatre. It’s probably going to be the next step in making us a bigger name – not just in Alpena and Northern Michigan, but also the entire state and hopefully the nation.”

Currently the theatre is getting set to open their newest show, The Mousetrap.

That show opens Friday at 7:30 P.M. and tickets can be purchased online at thunderbaytheatre.com, or by calling the box office at 989-354-2267.
