Three Wildcat track runners qualify for MHSAA State Finals

MIDLAND, MI – Yesterday the Alpena track team travelled to Midland High School for MHSAA State Qualifiers. The Wildcat runners left it all out their and worked hard to try and be a part of state finals. At the end of the day, three athletes managed to qualify.

First up is Alpena’s Female Athlete of the Year, Madi Szymanski. she took part in the 3200 meter race and finished third overall with a final time of 11:07.87. Along with a runner from Traverse City Central and Mt Pleasant, Madi has officially qualified for state finals.

The next runner who qualified is Elijah Allen, who took part in the 300 meter hurdles. Allen had a personal best time of 42.26 and finished as the runner up behind a runner from Swartz Creek.

Finally, rounding out the three runners who will compete in state finals this year is Cooper Bright. The leading Alpena basketball scorer took part in the 800 meter race and finished in first place with a final time of 50.41, his season best. Congratulations to Cooper, Madi and Elijah on making MHSAA state finals, and congrats to all the other Alpena runners who competed.

State finals takes place on June 4th at Rockford High School. The Wildcats next meet takes place at Fairview on Monday.
