The Freel is for real

POSEN, Mich. — When you think of Rogers City basketball, you think of Nick Freel. Ever since he was in seventh grade, he had one goal he wanted to achieve. That goal was to reach 1,000 points in his high school career. Going into Friday’s game against Posen, he only needed six points to reach the milestone. Freel not only he accomplished his goal, but he also dominated on the floor. The senior led the Hurons in the scoring department with 45 points as the Hurons took care of business, beating Posen 77-69 in a back and forth contest.

“To score your 1,000th point against your rival and to comeback from being down is crazy,” said Freel. “It was a lot of fun.”

Matt Newhouse also had a strong night for the Hurons. The senior finished with 18 points, scoring all of his points from beyond the arc. On the other end, AJ Brunet paced the Vikings in scoring with 20 points. Lucas Stone chipped in with 16 points and Ethan Soik finished with 13 points.

The Hurons (8-5) will head out to Inland Lakes on Wednesday for a meeting with the Bulldogs (6-8). Posen (9-2) returns to action on Monday for a Little Dipper showdown against Hale (7-1).
