The Bagley Street Bridge is shutting down for more repairs

The Bagley Street Bridge in Alpena will once again be shut down next week.

The Alpena County Road Commission says the Bagley Street Bridge will this Monday as more work needs to done.

The closure will have an impact on everyday drivers as well as state police.

“We’re going to have shorter response times there’s a lot more congestion driving down Washington  and 11th and Chisholm and  it’s going to increase our times 5 and 10 minutes and that’s a long time for an emergency….”

Construction on the bridge started a year ago and has cost 11 million dollars.

The Bagley street bridge has 17,000 vehicles that cross it daily.

Construction was stopped due to plagued soil, redesign issues, and supply chain and labor shortages.

Alpena County Road Commission manager Ryan Brege explains more about the bridge closure.

“Really I would just encourage motorists to be patient be safe, make a point not to be distracted when their driving ….”

Construction workers have been working on the bridge for a few weeks now.

They’ve been installing railings and working on lighting.

When the bridge is complete it will include a new curb and gutter, removal of temporary pavement, catch basin, and an epoxy overlay on the bridge surface.

The bridge is expected to reopen in June.
