The Alzheimer’s Association paid a visit to Alpena senior citizens center to share their new research and discoveries about the disease.

“We had a research event here today. We had Dr. Scott Counts, come out, to talk about the latest and greatest in Alzheimer’s and Dementia research. And then us from the Alzheimer’s Association were able to talk about all of the things that we do in research and advocacy and care and support” said Melanie Baird, Vice President of Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter.

Lifestyle changes such as developing a healthier diet and exercise can help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s.

“I hope they understand that the Alzheimer’s Association is really focused on research. We’re really working, you know, for the cure. Our vision is a world without Alzheimer’s and all other Dementias, so we’re really working towards that” said Kristen Weber, Regional Director of Alzheimer’s Association.

Alzheimer’s is the most expensive disease in the U.S. with an estimated total of 360 billion dollars.

“At the Alzheimer’s Association, you know, we’re dedicated to helping people, that are affected by Alzheimer’s and Dementia. You know, whether that be through our care and support programs, or you know, finding a cure, and treatments to slow this down and hopefully end it one day as well” said Baird.

The Alzheimer’s Association has a 24/7 hotline that you can call at 1800–272–3900 for resources and support.
