Team of the Week: Alpena Boys Varsity Soccer
ALPENA, MI – With high school sports in full swing, WBKB Sports is traveling around featuring teams all over Northeastern Michigan. We’re kicking things off with the Alpena Boys Varsity Soccer team.
Currently, the Wildcats are riding a three-game winning streak. Compared to last year, there’s a difference in the energy of the Wildcats team. It may be due to having an experienced roster, full of seniors, returning to the field for their final season as Wildcats. Head Coach, Tim Storch, is depending on his senior players to bring their A-game this year. “You can only play competitive sports for so long,” he said. “You hope that a lot of that is intrinsic motivation that they’re going to be ready to play.”
Senior captains, Chase Schiller and Jacob Beaubien, are both eager to get on the field and lead the rest of the Wildcats to a strong season. “I think the work we put in the off-season really helps each other improve,” said Schiller. “It’s definitely about the support within the team,” added Beaubien.
Alpena is in for a big week ahead. On Tuesday, the team heads to Petoskey to face the Northmen. Later in the week, the Gaylord Blue Devils visit the Wildcats on Thursday.
