TAWAS, MI- For a team that is built around seniors, the district championship was the final piece of the puzzle for the Tawas Boys Basketball team. Having won four games in 2021, they improved to 13 in 2022 and now in 2023 they have won 19 games and a district title. The Braves advanced to regionals with a 65-41 victory over the Alcona Tigers.
Playing the title game in front of their home crowd, the Braves used offensive balance and good shooting to control the first half and pull away in the second half. Ethan Hedglin led the way for the Braves with 17 points on the night. Powering an offense that at any point can be led by any one of the five seniors that led the offensive attack. Jake Look had the hot hand in the first quarter, Granite Barringer is the most complete offensive player of the group. Alex Kaems and Vinnie Frank are capable of 20 points on any given night.
With the win the Braves now move onto the regional semi-final. They take on St. Ignace on March 13. The game will be played at Gaylord High School. Tip off us at 7 PM.
