Statement Made, Alpena Downs #4 Flint Powers in Top 10 Matchup

TRAVERSE CITY, MI-  If there were people doubting the Alpena Hockey team coming into the North/South showcase in Traverse City, those doubts were loudly erased.

The 9th ranked Alpena Wildcats won their 9th game in a row and improved to 13-1-1 with a convincing 4-0 win over 4th ranked Flint Powers.

After a scoreless first period the Wildcats struck first in the second period as Anden Marceau found Harrison Kaszubowski who scored his 18th goal of the season to give Alpena a 1-0 lead.

The penalty kill struck later in the period as Garrett Hamp took a pass from Cam Young and gave Alpena a 2-0 lead on a shorthanded goal. Young would cap the second period scoring as the Wildcats led 3-0 after the second.

Hamp would pad the lead with his second of the afternoon to provide the final tally.  Aidan Schultz continued his dominance in net as he posted his third shutout of the season.  ” He was dialed in, his confidence is so high right now. He is playing super well.” said Head Coach Ben Henry.

The Wildcats did not get out of the game intact. Senior defenseman Ian Lightfoot left the game with a knee injury.  Henry was hopeful that he would be able to return on Saturday.

The Wildcats are right back at it Saturday as they take on Saginaw Heritage in a battle between two of the top five teams in the Division Two rankings.
