Spotty showers possible Thursday afternoon, warm temperatures ahead

High temperatures Thursday got up to 79 degrees in Alpena. Areas at the Lake Huron shoreline had slightly cooler temperatures with a light breeze out of the ESE, coming off of the water. Highs reached 72 degrees in Rogers City and 74 degrees in Tawas City. The setup will be similar Thursday, temperatures will become warmest for areas west of Lake Huron.

An area of higher instability is generating some scattered showers over parts of the Upper Peninsula, northern Wisconsin and southern Minnesota. This could spark spotty showers Thursday afternoon over Northeast Michigan. A lot of the day will remain dry, but there’s a low-end chance of afternoon showers.

With the high heat arriving late-week, a few tips are important to stay safe. Seek air-conditioned rooms, or at least try to stay in the shade if yo plan to spend time outdoors. Consume plenty of water to stay hydrated, note that alcohol and caffeine can help cause dehydration. It’s best to wear loose-fitting and light-colored clothing, light colors will reflect more heat away from you. If hanging out in the sunshine, also make sure to apply sunscreen every two hours.

Thursday: Partly cloudy, a spotty shower will be possible in the afternoon. Predawn lows will head down to 52 degrees. Late-morning temperatures will climb to nearly 70 degrees. Afternoon highs will reach around 79 degrees. Evening temperatures will cool from the middle 70s to middle 60s.

Friday: A little warmer, some sun and a chance of spotty showers in the afternoon. Early-morning temperatures will begin close to 55 degrees. Temperatures will rise to the lower 70s during the late-morning. Afternoon highs will get up to near 81 degrees. Evening temperatures will be mainly in the 70s.

Saturday: Hot, partly cloudy. Early-morning lows will be around 61 degrees. Temperatures will already become warm before midday, near 80 degrees in the late-morning. Afternoon highs will heat up to about 90 degrees. Evening temperatures will remain very warm, in the 80s to upper 70s.
