Speedy Hillman Tigers rely on senior leaders

Senior Gunner Mellingen practices run play at Hillman.

HILLMAN, Mich. — The Hillman Tigers finished last season (8-2) overall for their first season of 8-man football. Last year they lost in the first round of playoffs to Cedarville 44-6. This year, the Tigers will take the field with a new quarterback since Kory Henigan graduated, and second-year Head Coach Cody Allen knows the senior leaders will have to step up.

“I think he gave everyone perfect opportunities to prove themselves,” said senior running back Caleb Sanders. “I think it really helped us.”

Last year, the orange and white finished with just one loss in the regular season, but now the Tigers are going to have to train a new starting quarterback, like Nash Steinke, and rely heavily on their seniors.

The Hillman Tigers will face the Posen Vikings for a fun rivalry on Friday, August 30 at 7 p.m.
